TANJA FILIPOVIĆ & LARRY LOFQUIST

TANJA FILIPOVIĆ is a jazz singer whose work in various musical groups caters to a variety of genres. Her repertoire comprises music of the 1920s and 30s, swing, Dixieland, straight ahead, the American Songbook, as well as bebop. She performs as the lead or guest singer in the Orchester Sigi Feigl, the Prohibition Stompers, The Coquette Jazz Band, Street View Dixie, and Three Wise Men. She is also part of the band project Swing aRound and leader of the Tanja Filipović Quartett. With Eddie Luis and His Jazz Passengers, she developed the Ella Fitzgerald Tribute project. They also put a jazz interpretation of Carmen on stage in the course of the Styriarte festival in Graz in 2019. Tanja Filipović was invited to perform at the Trieste Loves Jazz festival (2023), the International Dixie- & Swing Festival Weiz (2023) and the Denia Jazz Festival in Spain (2023). 

Her musical education started after her graduation, when she moved from Belgrad to Graz at the age of 16. There she studied jazz vocals with Dena DeRose as well as vocal pedagogy at the jazz department of the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (Kunstuniversität Graz). During her studies, she organized the event series Groovin’ High Sessions at the Stockwerk Jazz Club, as well as Free for All at the Royal Garden Jazz Club in Graz. In 2022 she finished her studies with honors.

Tanja Filipović comes from a musical background. Her mother, Dubravka Filipović, works as a mezzo soprano at the opera in Belgrad. As a result, Tanja could gain insight into the workings of rehearsals, directing, dramaturgical processes in front of and behind the curtain, as well as artistic cooperation within an ensemble.

LARRY LOFQUIST is an expatriate from Detroit, Michigan. He worked many years as solo pianist in various venues, including the Trade Towers Marriott in New York and the Equinox Restaurant in Rio de Janeiro. His jazz work has included gigs with Bob Mover, Claudio Roditi, Vinnie Calaiuta, Vitor Assis Brasil, Joris Dudli and accompanied vocalists Dorretta Carter, Margaret Carter, Jacqueline Patricio.
