Nino Costa & Viola Ottomari Duo

Nino Costa is a Brazilian guitarist born in Olinda (PE). From an early age, he showed interest and talent for music, thus beginning his violin studies at the age of 9, prompted by his father, the also renowned musician and bassist Edilton Costa (Barbosa).
At the age of 11 he entered the UFRN to study violin and at the same time was a member of the Youth Orchestra of the City of Natal. In 2013 he completed the Technical Course in Electric Guitar at UFRN with Professor Manoca Barreto. In 2015 he got his degree in Music from UFRN. In 2019 he enrolled in the Music master’s degree in Jazz-Performance at the University of Aveiro (Portugal).
In 2016, he won first place in the Novos Talentos do RN competition, promoted by one of the biggest jazz festivals in the country, Fest Bossa & Jazz. In 2017 he repeated the feat with the Holistic Jazz Group at the Fimus-Jazz festival. Nino Costa also works as a sideman and studio musician, having collaborated with great artists such as Antônio de Pádua, Toninho Horta, Dani Cruz, Haley Isadora, Victor Filgueira, Ramon Montagner, Mestrinho, Paulo Braga, Michael Pipoquinha among others.
In 2023 he founded his duo Nino e Viola with the Italian singer Viola Ottomari, and released their first album Petricor.
Viola Ottomari is an Italian singer of Brazilian music and jazz. Her first contact with Bossa Nova was rather unusual, as she discovered the
voice of Joyce Moreno while watching a Japanese anime. Then it was samba, MPB, choro, côco, frevo and baião. All this features Viola Ottomari’s repertoire, as well as Guinga’s impressionistic compositions. Viola has no formal musical training.
In 2021 she took classes with singer and teacher Amélia Rabello at the EPM of Rio de
Janeiro. She has been performing since 2021 with Soul Bossa trio, Bossa Nossa duo.
Since 2023 she has formed her duo with guitarist and violonist Nino Costa, Nino e Viola.
